Engagement Session Tips

  1. Let yourself have fun!

This is by far one of the most important tips I can give you. You need to let yourself have fun when taking photos. I know, I know taking photos isn’t everyone’s cup of tea but it is so much fun, especially with your significant other. Think of this as a date night but you get awesome photos at the end!

It’s okay to be nervous to get your photo taken, most people are. You really do need to allow yourself to have fun. Try not to think you are getting photos taken, just think of you and your partner being silly together! You want to look and feel your best when taking photos and that takes me to my next tip!

2. Wear something you are comfortable in

You should wear something you are comfortable in. I always suggest to couples to dress how you usually do for your engagement session. If you are doing two outfits, a fancy and more casual outfit I suggest starting with the casual outfit. Being comfortable with what you are wearing will allow you to have even more fun. Whenever I wear something I am not comfortable in I find myself asking friends and family if I look okay. If I wear something I typically do I don’t have that issue!

That’s why choosing outfits that make you feel like a million bucks is key. If you purchase something new, take it out for a test run on a date night!

3. Get your ring cleaned

I can’t stress this enough, get your ring cleaned! I will take a detailed ring shot of your ring and it is so easy to see dirt. You don’t even need to go to the jeweler, you can get a pen on amazon! These work so great, I always recommend them to brides! You can view the ring cleaner here: Ring Cleaner.

4. Iron your clothes before your session

This may be one of the last things you think about, ironing your clothes. During your session you will be running, doing piggy back rides and a ton of movement. Your clothes will get easily wrinkled and it is so noticeable in photos!

5. Consider doing your makeup and hair trial the same day

So many of my couples already do this but it is such a great tip! Plan your hair and make up trial the day of your session. This is such a great idea, you will see how your hair and make up photographs and if you like it.

6. Make it a date night

Make it a date! I love when couples do this – it adds a special touch to your engagement session day. You will already be dolled up so why not continue the evening and get dinner, a movie, ect. You will be cuddly and playful during your session so it will feel like a date.

7. Go in for kisses!

If you haven’t spent a lot of time in front of a camera (and let’s face it–who has?), you may be pretty nervous or become stiff. A quick way to loosen up while still getting great photos is to go in for a kiss. This can help you connect with your partner and forget the camera is even around, which makes for more natural photos.
