Summer might be coming to an end, but I’m still dreaming about this romantic picnic engagement with Olivia and Orhun! When the couple first came to me to plan out their engagement photoshoot, the number one thing they wanted was a picnic scene. This immediately got me excited, as I love when couples come to me with a vision. Olivia even curated a Pinterest board for this session and after seeing the photos, she said I completely nailed her vision. That felt so nice to hear!
For the location, we decided on Buttermilk Falls in Mendham Township, NJ. It’s a popular spot with locals in the warmer months, but otherwise, a hidden gem. Olivia and Orhun live right around the corner from there and they often bring their pup, Turbo, there for walks! There’s a gorgeous unnamed park and then a short walk away is the waterfall, which was a huge bonus! For the first half of the session Olivia and Orhun set up their cute picnic. Olivia brought every prop along with her, from a parasol and picnic basket, to a book and flowers. It was super nostalgic and romantic. They took turns reading pages from the book aloud to each other and they couldn’t stop giggling, as some of the book’s language was hilarious!
Olivia and Orhun were so fun to photograph! They were down for anything and loved running around playfully with each other. After enjoying their picnic, we headed over to the waterfall! They dipped their toes in the water and explored the area together for a while.
These lovebirds first met at community college in Public Speaking class. Olivia was dreading having to take the class, but her mom convinced her to sign up for it. It’s a good thing she did, because she met the love of her life! Over the last year, Olivia and Orhun built their house together. They told me that their favorite date ever was actually on their 5 year anniversary when they stayed overnight in their house for the first time. A super important detail to note was that the house didn’t have any doors or windows yet! Not to mention no water, heating, or electric, only walls!
So they took a spontaneous trip to Walmart and bought a blow-up mattress, blankets, a heater, a screen projector and snacks! Plus they grabbed takeout from one of their favorite Italian restaurants. Despite it being really cold that evening, Olivia and Orhun said it became one of the most special memories they’ve created together! It was such a cute story and, I’m not going to lie, that would be a great plot for a romcom movie!!
